Fabric flowers

"Handmaking allows for the production of something unique. It can also create a warmer and more personal aesthetic where this is appropriate, and as a process it allows for more freedom for experimentation with layers, colour, and materials"
How lovely are these? I am very into handmaking at the minute, especially as its christmas soon and there are lots of people to give presents to! Have a go at this 5 petal fabric flower yourself. There is a 9 step ever-so-easy to follow tutorial on folksy, take a peek...

'Shine' Gocco print

I was trawling the net looking for a birthday present for a very special friend of mine, (we are like sisters) and I found this 'Shine' sunflower inspired print on Folksy (UK version of Etsy), I thought it was lush for starters, and perfect for my friend as she is a little ray of sunshine in my life. But I was intrigued also as I had no idea what a Gocco print was...
I devoted the next two hours of my life to finding everything there was to know about it, i can be a bit obsessive when I want to know something, so I found what I wanted to know - mystery solved - and I came within about an inch of buying one (they are discontinued and therefore very expensive so this would not have been the best of moves in the run up to Christmas! -maybe Santa will get me one?!).

Rob Ryan at YSP
Rob Ryan is a magician really, his work is absolutely incredible and charming. He creates unbelievably complex paper cuts, and his work has been used by big business including Elle magazine. Right now there is an exhibition of his work at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, this will be running until the 22nd february 2010.
The day I saw Rob Ryan's exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, it was snowy and I think the car park was a bit treacherous, but this more practical concern just sort of faded into the background as what could be more magical than Ryan's whimsical romantic papercuts in such a gorgeous snow dusted landscape. It would have been a great experience whatever the weather, but I am so so glad I got the snow thrown in too. It was the cherry on the cake. I have been a Rob Ryan admirer for a long time, and I will remain one for a long time to come.

Cabinets of Curiosity

Part of the Leeds big draw. These cabinets excited me - partly this was down to the retro/childhood inspired theme they took projected. But also because these out of context objects offered up the chance to draw purely for the joy of drawing. I think it would be good for the soul to draw everyday...
Cardon-copies

'Cardon-copies'
I had to put this up - I'm a kitten addict in the first place but this is a fantastic image with a great idea behind it, Cardon Webb redesigns poorly put together notes placed up in his neighbourhood, recreating them as much more appealing ads. I hope someone found this cat.
